Red Hat birthday

I remembered another birthday for next week (what does it mean, all these older women being born in the same couple of weeks?), and I also remembered that she had seen every RH card that I had made already, so I needed to make her a new one.  She is a woman of color, and I can't bring myself to put white women on cards that are being mailed to black women.  It just isn't right.  Fortunately, I had this image from Digital Two for Tuesday, good for any woman of any color.
Unfortunately, it lags in a lot of other areas.  This is one of those cards that I liked when I was putting it together, but not so much once I scanned it.

Challenges:
KB Cute - girly
Card Cupids - bright and bold
Dream Valley - old (cardstock) and new (painted paper)
Scrappy Frogs - birthday
Sparkles - metal (brads)

Origami butterflies

One of my Red Hat girlfriends came over yesterday for a playdate.  She had an origami butterfly pattern that she wanted to teach the ladies - she was wearing one as a pin, and the other ladies wanted one just like it.  Her only problem was that she didn't have a good supply of red and purple two-sided paper, so I told her we could make some.  So, she brought her butterfly pattern, and I pulled out my art supplies.

I had a good time making paper, but the paper that she liked best was one that I had made digitally!  I don't have a sample of it as a butterfly, but it is a background paper I had made for Red Hat cards.  Like my mother, I don't personally feel the need to have pictures of hats on my red hat clothing and jewelry - the color scheme is enough.  I think these butterflies are cute, though.  All they need are some pin backs.

Challenges:
One Stop Craft - more than one fold
Totally Gorjuss - hot colors
Fuzzy Wuzzy - animal
Stampin' Royalty - wings
Ooh La La - Bling it on
Card Ideas - Fabulous Folds

Red Hat creations

My Red Hat lady friends came over today to decorate our hats. I had a glittered red bird and a purple sequined butterfly I wanted to use. Neither of them was particularly cooperative, but this is what I ended up with:

I think they are both a little different from what the other ladies are wearing - that's always a good thing. I think I will get a lot of use out of that headband.

Reduation double challenge

In addition to my personal challenge to start using some of my unused TAC stamps, I'm conquering two challenges at once with this card. The first one is the Cuttlebug challenge to make a birthday party invitation using a Cuttlebug embossing folder. The second one is this week's sketch at CPS.

A reduation is a Red Hat Society event. A woman can only wear the red hat officially when she is 50 years old, before that she can be in the club, but wear a pink hat. On one's 50th birthday, one enjoys a reduation. My reduation was the best part of turning 50 for me, and I wish I had thought to make this card then.

The embossed part uses white core cardstock from DCWV, the white is revealed by sanding the surface after it has been embossed.
