The assignment was to use vertical lines. I started with vertical lines, but somehow I lost control of them.
I used Portfolio pastels, white and black gesso, souffles and gel pens. You would not believe the hours I spent on this. Word to the wise - gesso creates awesome colors when mixed with the Portfolio pastels, but gel pen ink will not dry when used over gesso. Not a good mix.

Good grief, this was worth every minute. I would like you to make me one, ohhh about 2 feet by 3 feet for over my couch! Ha ha.
I love that you lost control of the vertical lines, lol. Art should not be controlled. Once again, an amazing piece and thanks for the word of advice about gel pens and gesso.
I've been following your blog for such a long time and have enjoyed every minute. This piece is absolutely amazing, and yes, I can see many, many hours of work. I too agree that the fact you lost control of the vertical lines was what really made this an outstanding piece. Besides, in a way the lines do run in a vertical fashion. Great work!
The colors on this are amazing. Look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
Wow- this is gorgeous! I love the curved vertical lines adding movement and the color- LOVE this!!!
i don't know if there were any "rules" to follow, but the results are stunning. if "out of control" is assuming that the lines aren't straight, it would be less interesting. love it.
